When does the 2027 London Marathon Ballot open?

For those hoping to secure a spot in the 2027 London Marathon, the ballot is now open.

Those hoping to take part in next year’s event have until 4pm on May 1, 2026, to apply.

How do I apply for the ballot?

To enter the ballot for next year’s race, visit the London Marathon Events website.

It is free to enter the ballot, but those participants who earn a spot in the 2027 London Marathon will have to pay an entry fee:

‘Double your chances’ entry – £49.99

UK entrants – £79.99

International entrants – £225

The London Marathon Events website adds: “It is a completely random draw, just like the National Lottery. You will receive an email outcome by early July. “

When is the London Marathon in 2027?

The London Marathon will take place on Sunday, April 26, 2027.

However, plans to run the event over two days are also being explored for next year.

If permission is granted, the London Marathon will be run twice – on Saturday, April 26, and Sunday, April 26.

How many spaces are available?

More than 59,000 runners are expected to compete in the 2026 London Marathon.

But the odds of earning a spot in the race may improve in 2027 if plans for an extra day are approved.

If the one-off two-day event goes ahead in 2027, all entrants will automatically be entered into the ballot for both Saturday and Sunday.

How else can I get a place in the 2027 London Marathon?

Not all spaces for the London Marathon are given out through the ballot.

Participants can also earn a spot in the race by:

Applying through a charity

Qualifying with a ‘good for age’ time

Running for a British Athletics Club
