High street favourite returns to social media after vanishing in 2021

The bath and beauty brand has reappeared on social media platforms, establishing a presence on Bluesky.

The decision comes almost five years after the firm withdrew from major online networks citing worries about psychological wellbeing.

The beauty company departed from Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, and Snapchat in 2021, describing its stance as a decisive position against exploitative algorithms, data harvesting business models, and the progressive deterioration of internet environments.

Taniya De Abrew, who leads digital marketing and programmes worldwide at the company, explained that when the international business abandoned Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X and Snapchat several years back, internal discussions were not merely a straightforward statement of opposition to social platforms.

The conversations initiated a wider examination of what improved digital environments might resemble, the obligations companies bear within online systems, and whether expansion should consistently serve as the primary objective.

The business has now created a profile on Bluesky, a platform it characterises as providing more openness regarding how content appears compared to X.

This represents the company’s initial comeback to a widely-used social platform since exiting in 2021.

The organisation indicated that migrating to Bluesky follows prolonged efforts championing improved online environments.

It has participated in initiatives including the Big Tech Rebellion and the Safer Socials Summit, and has collaborated with organisations such as People vs Big Tech and ctrl+alt+reclaim.

Ms De Abrew mentioned that the company intends to utilise Bluesky to publish genuine material produced by its workforce, as opposed to employing a refined approach typical of social media influencers.

She noted that one aspect she has consistently valued about employment at the company is that it seldom opts for the most convenient path.

The business could comfortably depend on perpetual price reductions, unending special offers, and promotional approaches built around artificial urgency and excessive consumption.

Numerous companies operate in this manner.

Nevertheless, there exists an authentic commitment to product excellence, skilled craftsmanship, and personal interaction rather than pursuing immediate gains.

She indicated that material from shop employees and product specialists would receive emphasis on the newly established platform, with the objective of eventually extending this methodology to the company’s website and application.

Ms De Abrew observed that witnessing Lush outlets and important personnel establish profiles on Bluesky appears to be the logical progression in an ongoing dialogue regarding the possibility of healthier digital communities.
