Plans for a significant railway development could transform transportation and economic prospects throughout west London.
Residents in Brent have been asked to contribute their perspectives on the proposed West London Orbital railway, which seeks to enhance regional connectivity by repurposing existing freight corridors for passenger use.
The proposed alignment would stretch from Hendon to Hounslow, with fresh station facilities envisioned for Neasden and Harlesden.
Transport for London has initiated a public consultation, offering inhabitants and enterprises the opportunity to influence the project’s development.
The upgraded line would connect Brent neighbourhoods to important locations such as Brent Cross West, Heathrow, and Old Oak Common, which will provide direct interchange with the HS2 high-speed railway and the Elizabeth line.
Travel durations stand to be considerably shortened under the proposals.
The journey between Harlesden and Brent Cross West could fall from 39 minutes to 13 minutes, while the trip from Neasden to Old Oak Common might decrease from 44 minutes to just 11 minutes.
Earlier this year, the initiative achieved a pivotal stage when Transport for London, Brent Council, and collaborating organisations sanctioned a £6.65 million funding allocation to advance detailed planning, station architecture, and consultation activities.
According to Transport for London, the undertaking could sustain in excess of 11,500 positions, facilitate construction of more than 25,000 additional residences, and eliminate approximately 650,000 vehicle trips from London’s highways annually.
Brent Council has reinforced its commitment to the scheme by adopting a resolution urging the Government to collaborate with the Mayor of London, Transport for London, and neighbouring authorities to establish a financial framework for implementation.
The public consultation commences on September 23.
