British electronic act Maribou State brought a significant era to a close with an emotional headline performance at a London festival.
The pair delivered what may have been their last live appearance for some time at Victoria Park’s Lido Festival, with the show coinciding with the announcement of an indefinite break.
Chris Davids and Liam Ivory had recently completed their Hallucinating Love tour, and the concert appeared to mark the conclusion of that cycle.
During the event, Ivory commented that the timing felt appropriate for stepping away rather than immediately commencing another period of intensive work.
He noted that the latest album had emerged during a period of personal health difficulties, and that continuing straight into another demanding schedule would contradict the album’s themes of recovery.
Ivory expressed a desire for genuine time to recover both physically and mentally, as well as the opportunity to establish a lifestyle that touring commitments had previously prevented.
The announcement lent the evening considerable emotional weight, elevating the performance from a standard festival closing set to a poignant farewell for a group whose following had grown substantially in recent years.
The production included a full choir and orchestral arrangement, representing the duo’s most ambitious live show to date and providing both a visual and musical spectacle.
Special guests Andreya Triana and Talulah Ruby provided vocal contributions throughout the set, while tracks including Midas and Blackoak prompted strong responses from the assembled crowd.
Earlier programming at the venue featured drum and bass pioneers Calibre and LTJ Bukem, whose track Atlantis proved particularly well received.
House and disco act Collect 200 maintained audience energy levels, while Welsh electronic artist Kelly Lee Owens delivered a hypnotic performance that incorporated Underworld’s Born Slippy.
Kelis occupied the main stage with a selection of popular tracks including Milkshake and Bounce.
Although the venue did not reach maximum capacity, those present demonstrated enthusiasm and engagement throughout.
As Maribou State’s set concluded beneath falling white confetti, the sense of conclusion was unmistakable, providing what would represent a memorable and appropriate farewell if the performance proves to have been their final live show.
