Josh Widdicombe is set to join the presenting lineup for Strictly Come Dancing, marking a new chapter in the comedian’s career.

The Bristol-born performer has built a reputation through various television projects before this latest opportunity.

Born in Hammersmith, he spent his formative years in Devon before pursuing higher education in Manchester, where he studied sociology and linguistics.

Further academic pursuits led him to City, University of London, where he obtained a postgraduate qualification in magazine journalism.

His entry into comedy began with stand-up performances in 2008, quickly gaining recognition by reaching the final of a prominent competition at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe that same year.

The following period saw him developing his craft through sketch shows and collaborations with fellow emerging performers.

His solo debut production received critical acclaimed, earning him a nomination for Best Newcomer at a major Edinburgh comedy awards ceremony.

Television appearances followed, establishing him as a regular presence on comedy programmes and contributing to radio broadcasts on national stations.

Writing credits for popular panel shows further solidified his position within the comedy industry.

Extensive touring experience supporting established names in the field provided additional performance opportunities and professional development.

His introduction to Strictly came through a Christmas special appearance in 2024, where he performed a Charleston routine alongside professional dancer Karen Hauer in a distinctive costume.

Following announcements about presenting changes for the main programme, he was confirmed as part of the new hosting team alongside Emma Willis and Johannes Radebe.

The presenting trio is reportedly preparing a collective performance for the launch episode, with professional dancer Neil Jones describing their commitment and enthusiasm for participating in choreography during Radio Times interviews.

The upcoming series is scheduled to premiere in September, with the launch broadcast confirmed for a Saturday evening slot on the main BBC channel and streaming platform.

Weekly live competitions will follow, continuing through the autumn months until mid-December, when the final episode will determine the season’s winners of the show’s prestigious trophy.
