An aircraft travelling from the United Kingdom to Ibiza was compelled to reverse course after the crew declared an inflight emergency.

Jet2 flight LS1473 departed London Stansted Airport bound for the Spanish island and transmitted a distress signal while cruising at an altitude of 35,000 feet above northern France.

The international emergency code 7700 was activated, signalling a general aviation emergency requiring priority handling.

The Boeing 737-800, bearing the registration G-JZHF, executed an unscheduled 180-degree turn and proceeded toward Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, where it was cleared to land ahead of other traffic.

The aircraft touched down safely on runway 27L at approximately 10:50am local time.

Emergency response teams had been positioned at the airfield in anticipation of the aircraft’s arrival.

Aviation tracking information indicates the aircraft initiated its diversion approximately one hour after departing London Stansted at 8:10am.

Records confirm the aircraft entered service in 1999, making it 27 years old at the time of the incident.

Prior to operating under the Jet2 livery, the jet had served other carriers including Dutch airline Transaviam, according to aviation monitoring service AirLive.

The precise nature of the emergency prompting the diversion has not yet been officially disclosed by the airline.
