The Irish crime series Kin is set to return for a third instalment, with audiences expressing enthusiasm about its comeback.
Viewers of the show will be delighted that a third season has been confirmed following the collapse of co-producer Bron Studios.
The programme centres on a fictional Dublin family entangled in organised crime, debuting in 2021.
It rapidly established itself as one of Ireland’s most popular television offerings and was picked up by the BBC in 2023, with both initial seasons available on BBC iPlayer.
Prior to the announcement, cast member Emmett J. Scanlan, who portrays Jimmy Kinsella, disclosed that a competitive acquisition process had taken place for the programme.
Addressing Radio Times, he expressed that many parties were interested in acquiring the programme, and he believed this to be true. However, he noted uncertainty about which entity would secure it or where it would ultimately be released. He emphasized maintaining optimism, expressing his love for the show and pride in his involvement. He indicated his eagerness to participate in a potential third season, noting the impressive viewership numbers on BBC iPlayer and his readiness to return immediately.
Alongside Scanlan, the cast includes Charlie Cox, known for his role in Daredevil, and Clare Dunne, who has also appeared in 500 Miles.
The upcoming season’s description states that KIN Season three reunites the nation with the Kinsella crime family. As they consolidate power, buried betrayals and festering rivalries turn inward, and the greatest threat to the family empire becomes the family itself.
A premiere date for the programme has yet to be announced.
Social media responses have been overwhelmingly positive, with enthusiasts flocking to Reddit to express their delight. One commenter remarked that they had not expected the announcement, noting they had heard rumours a few months prior and recalled Clare Dunne mentioning season three, though they remained uncertain it would actually happen. They expressed their happiness about the confirmation and anticipation for the new season.
Another contributor wrote that they were excited and noted there would likely be a significant time jump, with Anna and Anthony becoming fully grown adults.
