Authorities have taken into custody an adult male and a adolescent in relation to the widely-shared internet phenomenon known as the “London Red vs Blue school wars.”

The Metropolitan Police apprehended a man aged between 20 and 29 alongside a 15-year-old youth in the Central East London area at approximately 6:45pm on Sunday, March 1.

The pair were detained on grounds of suspected facilitation or incitement of criminal activity, with both currently remaining in law enforcement detention.

According to officers, the detentions concern a recent wave of social media content urging students to participate in violent confrontations with one another.

The broader “Red vs Blue” phenomenon involved content published on TikTok and Snapchat that portrayed afternoon gatherings as clashes between opposing educational institutions, categorizing students into groups identified by colours.

Certain shared content made reference to attendees bringing equipment such as compasses and metal combs, leading to institutional cautions from schools and heightened police visibility throughout multiple boroughs.

In select locations, guardians were recommended to personally pick up pupils from school entrances as a preventive measure, and dispersal orders under Section 35 were implemented.

Investigators have not indicated whether additional detentions are anticipated.

A representative for the Metropolitan Police stated: “On Sunday, March 1, at roughly 18:45 hours, Metropolitan officers took into custody two individuals in Central East London regarding a recent series of social media postings.

Both individuals—a man in his twenties and a fifteen-year-old boy—were apprehended on suspicion of encouraging or assisting in an offence.

They continue to remain in police custody.

A heightened police presence is being maintained in the vicinity of educational institutions, particularly during dismissal times.

Local law enforcement continues to collaborate with council representatives, school administrators and parents, whose coordinated rigorous response has proven essential in safeguarding young people throughout recent days.
