A school employee is aiming to finish six marathons across 2026 to raise funds for the centre that cared for his mother-in-law during her cancer illness.

Andy Taylor, who works at Northwood College, hopes to gather £10,000 for the Paul Strickland Scanner Centre at Mount Vernon Hospital in honour of Margaret Gross, who was called wonderful.

So far he has completed four events, with the latest being the Brighton event on April 12. His next challenge is set for May 3 in Margaret’s birthplace – the Great Limerick Run.

His finished events include the Doughnut Dash in Sunbury-on-Thames on January 11, the Running Tribe Race in Chalfont St Peter on January 24, the Magna Carta Marathon in Egham on February 21, and the Brighton event. Two further marathon dates have yet to be arranged.

Mr Taylor mentioned that it has been ten years since Marg, his cherished mother-in-law, died from cancer. Marg was treated at the Paul Strickland Scanner Centre, where their vital efforts focus on identifying conditions early and preserving lives.

This endeavour reflects his ongoing commitment to backing the significant difference they make for many families while keeping Marg’s memory alive – he believes she would be deeply proud.

Mr Taylor has so far accumulated £7,000 of his target. He noted that each gift, whatever the size, will help this excellent charity carry on its life-changing work for those in treatment.
