The 46th TCS London Marathon is underway with tens of thousands of runners currently out on the 26.2-mile course around the capital.
A record-breaking 59,000 people are expected to take part in this year’s race, which kicked off in the sunshine on what is expected to be a warm day, with temperatures forecast to reach the high teens.
Last year, the event broke the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the most finishers in a marathon, with 56,640 participants making it to the end – a record organisers are hoping to beat in 2026.
Supporters have lined the route to cheer on the runners, with many carrying placards.

London Marathon tracker
You may know someone running the London Marathon today, and want to track how they are going.
Whether you are there watching the race live or at home, simply visit the London Marathon Results website and select ‘tracking’.
A map of the course will appear.
From there, enter the name or bib number of the runner you are looking for, and it will provide you with details of their progress, including their time, where they are on the course, and split details.

This year’s course starts in Greenwich and finishes on The Mall.
Detailing the course, the website explains: “Participants from the three starting points meet for the first time just before Mile Three, in Woolwich.
“You’ll turn west to pass through Charlton, Greenwich and Deptford, looping around Cutty Sark between Miles Six and Seven. Expect huge crowds as you pass the historic ship.
“The route then takes you through Rotherhithe and onto Jamaica Road in Bermondsey as you head towards one of the world’s greatest marathon landmarks: Tower Bridge.
“Soak up the energy of the roaring crowds and let the wall of noise push you across the River Thames towards the halfway point. This is a marathon moment to savour.
“Once you’re north of the river, and have clocked 13 miles, you’ll head east along The Highway to Westferry then circle through Mudchute, Docklands and Canary Wharf.”

Rainbow Row greets runners at mile 21, while the final five miles pass The Highway, Tower Hill , and Victoria Embankment before reaching Parliament Square, Birdcage Walk, and the final corner in front of Buckingham Palace.
Participants then conclude by crossing the “world-famous” finish line on The Mall.
