An environmental initiative themed around climate action is set to commence with a community repair event and a programme of associated activities.
Barnet Climate Action Week commences on October 10 and incorporates a capital-wide record attempt for the greatest number of household items restored within a seven-day period.
Local residents have been invited to bring malfunctioning objects to Cultivate Colindale for a complimentary repair session running from 11am until 3pm, where skilled volunteers will undertake fixes on small electrical appliances, fabrics, and bicycles.
The gathering forms part of an expanded partnership with additional London boroughs, namely Brent, Camden, Hackney, and Islington.
Collectively, these areas will strive to establish a fresh restoration record during Circular Economy Week and International Repair Day.
The repair gathering additionally encompasses a pre-owned bicycle marketplace, with all funds collected benefiting Cycle Sisters, an organisation dedicated to assisting Muslim and ethnically varied women in cycling pursuits.
The event builds upon Barnet’s established restoration and reapplication initiative, which has already delivered eight Repair CafĂ©s throughout the borough during the preceding twelve months.
Councillor Alan Schneiderman, Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change, expressed that the week presents a valuable occasion to recognise constructive measures already occurring throughout the borough whilst motivating additional inhabitants to engage.
He noted that the repair gathering illustrates how modest individual efforts can generate meaningful outcomes, enabling people to preserve finances, minimise refuse, and maximise utilisation of existing possessions.
The schedule also incorporates a neighbourhood gathering at St John’s United Reformed Church, a compact Forest community gathering, a pan-borough educational establishment equipment contribution campaign, and a display of The People’s Emergency Briefing at The Phoenix Cinema.
Further activities encompass a Dollis Valley Community Harvest Day alongside nature-focused pursuits at Burnt Oak Brook and Stephens House and Gardens.
Community members can access the complete schedule and confirm attendance for events via the council’s official online platform.
