McDonald’s teases World Menu Heist return with cryptic social media clues

The fast food chain confirmed earlier this month that its popular annual Monopoly promotion would not be returning this year, leaving many customers disappointed.

However, a new initiative appears to be in the pipeline as the company begins teasing something new across its social media channels.

On its official Facebook page, McDonald’s posted several images showing a gold-coloured vault featuring an array of different symbols.

These included a snowflake design, an outline of Australia’s territory, what resembles a piece of bacon, a cheese wedge, a padlock, and various country abbreviations such as IND, SGP and NLD.

The accompanying caption offered no explanation, simply indicating that whatever the symbols mean, the poster was committed to participating.

Earlier in the week, the company had announced that an innovative new menu would be arriving at restaurants shortly, featuring dishes inspired by various nations around the globe.

The World Menu Heist promotion makes its comeback for a second consecutive year, bringing beloved items from overseas markets to British and Irish outlets.

The food on offer draws from seven different countries.

From Germany comes the Big Rösti burger, while Canadian offerings include the Maple and Cheddar Chicken variant alongside the S’mores McFlurry.

Australian selections feature both the Chicken and Egg McMuffin and the Chicken and Bacon McMuffin.

Dutch customers can enjoy Paprika McShaker Fries, Chinese outlets serve Szechuan Sauce, Indian branches stock Guava by Sprite Zero, and UAE locations feature Mac and Cheese Triangles.

These international selections will become available from Tuesday, September 22 across every restaurant in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The Monopoly game, which first debuted in 2006, has run annually for two decades, allowing customers to collect game tokens attached to purchases of fries, wraps, beverages, McFlurries and other menu items with the chance to win substantial prizes.

The most recent edition operated between September 10 and October 21 last year, offering rewards such as one hundred thousand pounds in cash, a two thousand pound Jet2 holiday voucher, an LG OLED television and a Merlin Annual Pass covering four people.

complimentary food items including Big Macs, Quarter Pounders, McFlurries, Apple Pies and milkshakes were also among the prizes distributed.

A company representative explained that while Monopoly will not feature in 2026 promotions, the business remains committed to delivering exciting experiences for customers, pointing to the recent launch of the CARDS promotion in March and an inaugural partnership with Xbox as part of the Side Missions programme as examples of ongoing innovation in customer engagement.
