Families should verify their children’s Zip Oyster photocard remains current ahead of the autumn term, transport officials have said.
Transport for London is encouraging households to submit fresh applications or extend current passes to maintain children’s access to reduced or complimentary journeys throughout the city.
The cards serve three age brackets: five to 10 years, 11 to 15 years, and those aged 16 and above. They provide complimentary or reduced-price travel on London buses, trams and trains.
TfL’s customer director noted that families ought to ensure their child’s documentation remains current to avoid disruption. She added that having a valid pass enables young people to use affordable public transport options across the capital’s tube, bus and rail services.
The youngest tier of pass enables complimentary travel across bus, Tube, tram, DLR, London Overground, Elizabeth line (excluding the West Drayton-Reading section) and most National Rail services operating in London.
The middle age bracket provides free bus and tram journeys alongside child-rate fares on the Tube, DLR and additional services. Carers are also advised to explore eligibility for 16 plus, 18 plus and apprentice passes, which provide further reductions for those in education or training schemes.
Applications can be submitted through TfL’s website, with passes normally arriving within a fortnight of approval.
The Weekend Hopper fare is also being highlighted, offering unlimited bus and tram trips for £1.75 on Saturdays and Sundays through the end of August. The discount applies automatically when touching in using the same card or device throughout the day.
