Country music legend Dolly Parton has passed away at the age of 80, her family has confirmed, with admirers honouring her as the Queen of country music.
The Tennessee-born entertainer, celebrated for tracks including 9 to 5 and Jolene, entertained audiences across the globe throughout her extensive career spanning several decades.
Bryan Seaver, who is the son of Cassie Parton, posted a video statement on Dolly’s official Instagram page revealing the news on August 25.
He confirmed the passing of his aunt Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean, explaining that Dolly requested he create this video announcement years prior, well before she knew it would eventually become required.
He noted that he had worked as her head of security for over two decades, a role previously held by his father Larry, and that he had imagined how burdensome this moment would be, though he had never actually experienced it until now.
He described it as an honour, one filled with complete pride and profound sadness.
He stated that Dolly lived in the light.
Bryce Leatherwood, a singer, posted a message on Dolly Parton’s Instagram page expressing gratitude and noting that she would always be the Queen of country music.
The country music pair The Kentucky Gentleman posted a message thanking Mrs Dolly for demonstrating how to live.
Jake Jamie, a British influencer, wrote that she was one of life’s true treasures and a light she brought to the world, adding that he was absolutely heartbroken.
Earlier this month, Dolly was absent from the opening night of a new feature at her theme park in Tennessee after experiencing vertigo and dehydration, with medical professionals recommending she avoid travelling.
Following the cancelled appearance, she spoke to People magazine about her health struggles, explaining that she had been ignoring some medical problems while caring for Carl.
She had neglected her own wellbeing while looking after her husband before he passed away last year.
Dolly was married to Carl Thomas Dean for nearly six decades until his death in March 2025 at the age of 82.
