Viewers of the BBC soap will watch Lee and Nancy return to screens this autumn as part of a storyline that signals the closing chapter of their mother Linda’s tenure on the programme.
Kellie Bright, who has portrayed Linda Carter for over a decade, recently confirmed she would be stepping away from the show, stating the time had come for her to bid farewell.
Ben Wadey, who serves as executive producer of EastEnders, commented that Kellie Bright would be departing with tremendous sadness after an impressive number of years with the programme.
He noted a personal connection with Bright and described her as an extraordinary performer, adding that Linda Carter stands among the most iconic figures the show has ever featured.
The loss of such a character represents a pivotal moment for the series, and the production team is committed to showcasing Linda at her finest during her remaining episodes on screen.
Linda Carter, the family matriarch, shares four children with her husband Mick, portrayed by Danny Dyer.
Their children Lee (played by Danny-Boy Hatchard) and Nancy (played by Maddy Hill) will be returning to Walford for this particular storyline.
Wadey, who is 32 years old, stated that both actors would be welcomed back for a period of time in a narrative that he promised would leave audiences astonished by the opening cliff-hanger.
Lee Carter originally departed the show in 2017, though he has made sporadic appearances since then.
He expressed tremendous delight at returning to the programme, describing Albert Square as a second home and stating he was thrilled to be back working with the EastEnders family.
Maddy Hill, who portrayed Nancy until 2022, stated she was looking forward to returning for a brief period and inhabiting Nancy’s character once more, adding that she had missed the role.

Further developments would involve more of Denise’s extended family joining her quest to locate a stem cell donor, with the introduction of her previously unknown brother Darnell and his daughter Grace.
The new characters will debut later this summer, portrayed by Christopher Colquhoun as Darnell Larson Jr and Krysstina Frempong as Grace.
Wadey characterised them as wonderfully uplifting characters who are relatable and ordinary, having observed Walford from a distance.
He also hinted at future storylines for Suki Panesar (played by Balvinder Sopal) and Eve Unwin (played by Heather Peace), suggesting significant developments were ahead for their ongoing adoption narrative.
