Brenda Blethyn, who portrayed the central figure in the ITV detective series Vera, has suggested she may come back to the programme at some point.
Although fresh episodes of Vera concluded last year and no revival is presently scheduled, the actress who depicted DCI Vera Stanhope has not ruled out appearing in future instalments.
The programme concluded its run in 2025 after stretching across 14 series.
Speaking to Woman’s Day magazine, Blethyn discussed the possibility of reprising her role as Vera once more.
When asked if she would consider returning, Blethyn expressed openness to the idea, indicating she would be willing to participate in a potential special episode, describing the role as a wonderful job.
The performer indicated that she had another venture in development that remains unconfirmed, according to Radio Times coverage.
During the previous November, Blethyn mentioned that the Vera production set could no longer be accessed, though she expressed enthusiasm for the possibility of a special episode, saying she would welcome such an opportunity.
The Dark Wives served as the programme’s final episode, broadcasting on January 2, 2025, with viewers also receiving a documentary the following day.
Steph McGovern shared on social media her reflections on the end of Vera, describing it as the end of an era and praising Ann Cleeves as the amazing creator of Vera alongside Brenda Blethyn as acting royalty. McGovern noted she was lucky to call these women friends and mentioned they had spent time together the previous evening discussing Vera while raising money for Shiremoor Adventure.
Those eager to see more of Blethyn can anticipate her taking on the Emma Harte character again in A Woman of Substance.
This Channel 4 version of Barbara Taylor Bradford’s novel also features Jessica Reynolds.
The production traces Emma Harte’s path from a penniless, aspiring servant in Yorkshire during 1911 to achieving extraordinary wealth.
Episodes of the crime drama are available to stream on ITVX for those wishing to revisit or discover the series.
