Four out of five young people in Britain now opt for active pastimes when socialising instead of conventional evenings out.

Research involving 2,000 UK adults revealed that more than a quarter of Millennials and Generation Z credit activity-based pursuits with helping them form new friendships.

One in four participants valued the feeling of belonging that such pastimes foster, while almost the same number stated these pursuits give them a reason to visit unfamiliar locations.

Many are gravitating toward outdoor pursuits, with almost a third visiting natural environments several times weekly.

Preferred communal activities now encompass jogging and trail running at 49 per cent, while lake and sea swimming attracts 28 per cent of respondents.

Additional pastimes drawing participants include rambling at 26 per cent, wave sports and underwater activities at 13 per cent, and rock climbing also at 13 per cent.

The study was commissioned by Samsung to mark the launch of the Galaxy Watch Ultra2, a device engineered to aid outdoor pursuits through health monitoring and robust construction.

Annika Bizon, a spokesperson for the technology company, stated that individuals are allocating more time to physical movement and adventure in their daily routines.

The company’s findings indicate that 87 per cent of Generation Z express interest in tackling a fresh fitness or open-air challenge within the coming year.

Online platforms are also accelerating this shift, with roughly half encountering fresh pastimes, clubs and alfresco groups via these channels.

A quarter additionally uncovered a fresh interest through structured events and challenges.

In reality, just over half of Generation Z respondents had undertaken a personal fitness or outdoor challenge during the previous twelve months.

As open-air pursuits become an increasingly central component of social interaction, wrist-worn gadgets are enabling individuals to prepare, monitor and recover with heightened assurance.

One in four respondents employ such devices to establish targets, while 39 per cent frequently log their advancement and 27 per cent rely on them to assess their performance.

Indicators regarding tension and vitality levels at 18 per cent, slumber pattern analysis at 23 per cent and pulse monitoring at 23 per cent rank among the functionalities Generation Z values most highly when participating in such pastimes.

For 93 per cent of water sport and diving enthusiasts, a wearable capable of providing data while submerged proves indispensable.

And 89 per cent of adventurous young Britons desire a timepiece capable of enduring demanding outdoor environments.

Annika Bizon from Samsung further commented that as increasing numbers of individuals participate in running collectives, uncover fresh trails or pursue personal fitness aims, they seek technology that equips them to feel ready, maintains their drive and offers insight into their achievements.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 has been developed to accompany every stage of that process, enabling wearers to gain deeper understanding of their performance, monitor their development and venture out with assurance.
