A local parish has formally introduced its new priest during a special gathering.

St William of York Roman Catholic Church in Stanmore commemorated the beginning of Fr Julio Albornoz’s tenure with a community gathering on Sunday, July 5.

Fr Albornoz assumes the position following the departure of Fr Jonathan Goodall, who retired.

Elected officials were present at the occasion, including the Mayor of Harrow, Councillor Yogesh Teli, MP for Harrow East Bob Blackman CBE, alongside councillors Anjana Patel and Ameet Jogia.

The programme commenced with a prayer followed by a period of reflection for those affected by recent seismic events in Venezuela, Fr Albornoz’s nation of origin.

Fr Michael Munnelly, who ministered to the congregation between 2012 and 2022, was also present, together with Rev Matthew Stone, the incumbent at St John’s Anglican Church in Stanmore.

St William of York expressed sincere appreciation to all distinguished guests who managed to attend despite their demanding timetables.

Mr Blackman addressed the audience regarding Harrow’s success as a harmonious blend of different communities thriving together.

The Mayor delivered remarks concerning civic duty, describing this aspect of his position as vital and aligned with fundamental values embraced by faith organisations.
