BA halts flights to seven key destinations, updates passengers on changes

British Airways has reduced services to seven destinations across the Middle East.

The carrier has modified its summer 2026 programme, which concludes on October 24, citing continued unrest in the area as the reason for the adjustments.

According to a British Airways representative, the ongoing situation in the Middle East has prompted additional modifications to the flight schedule to give customers better certainty. The matter remains under continuous evaluation and those impacted are being contacted directly to discuss alternative arrangements. Since the disruption commenced, the company has facilitated the return of thousands of passengers, operated humanitarian services, and increased capacity on important long-haul corridors. Further scheduling adjustments will be evaluated and introduced where feasible.

The cities impacted are Dubai, Doha, Riyadh, Tel Aviv, Bahrain, Amman, and Jeddah.

Routes to Dubai have been scaled back from three daily services to one. The single daily operation is slated to resume on August 1, with a second daily departure scheduled to commence on October 16.

Services to Doha, Riyadh, and Tel Aviv have been trimmed from two daily flights to one until August 1, when normal frequencies are expected to be restored.

Operations to Bahrain and Amman have been suspended for the rest of the summer period, with services due to recommence on October 25.

British Airways has also ended its Jeddah service permanently, with the final flight operating on April 24.

The company has confirmed it is communicating with affected passengers to provide various alternatives.

The head of the International Energy Agency has cautioned that Europe possesses sufficient jet fuel reserves for approximately six weeks.

IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol warned that society is approaching an energy crisis unprecedented in scale, caused by the disruption of oil, gas, and other critical supplies flowing through the Strait of Hormuz.

Birol stated this would result in elevated petrol costs, increased gas prices, and higher electricity bills. He noted that certain global regions would experience more severe consequences than others. He indicated that nations heavily dependent on Middle Eastern energy supplies, particularly Japan, South Korea, India, China, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, would bear the initial impact. He added that Europe and the Americas would subsequently be affected.
