Spotify fans divided by new 20th anniversary app design – ‘Thought it had glitched’

Published on

Spotify fans have been left divided after spotting a temporary makeover to the app’s iconic logo.

The streaming giant has updated its familiar green-and-black icon to a shimmering disco ball in celebration of its 20th anniversary.

The visual change is part of Spotify’s global anniversary campaign, “Spotify 20: Your Party of the Year(s)”, and is not a permanent update to the logo.

A post shared by Spotify fans left divided by new app design

The temporary app design has sparked mixed reactions from Spotify users online.

Some have said they “love” the new look, with one person posting on Instagram: “A green disco ball?!?! I love it!”

Another added: “Just updated mine, looks pretty dope.”

Others were less enthusiastic about the change, with several mistaking the new look for a technical issue.

This user, posting on X (formerly Twitter), said: “Waking up to see Spotify changed their app logo for their 20 year anniversary – I legit thought it had glitched out or something.

“Sorry but I don’t like it.”

Another said: “Awful design choice that.”

Spotify launches new in-app feature that’s “more nostalgic than Wrapped”

The new disco ball app design is part of a broader campaign celebrating Spotify’s 20th anniversary.

The music streaming service has launched a new in-app feature called “Spotify 20: Your Party of the Year(s)”, which offers users a “nostalgic” look back at their personal listening journey on the platform.

The mobile-only experience reveals milestones such as:

Your First Day on Spotify

Total Number of Unique Songs You Listened To

Your First Streamed Song

Your All-Time Most-Streamed Artist

As part of the campaign, users will also receive a personalised playlist of their 120 top songs, complete with play counts.

Spotify said: “This new, mobile-only in-app experience gives you a playful, nostalgia-driven look back at your music listening history.”

The feature is available on mobile across 144 markets and in 16 languages.

Users can access it by searching “Spotify 20” or “Party of the Year(s)” in the app, or by visiting the Spotify website.
