A parliamentarian from Harrow advocated for Northwick Park Hospital’s request to construct an expanded intensive care unit, discussing the matter directly with the Prime Minister.
The hospital’s campaign was presented to Parliament by Gareth Thomas MP, who is pushing for a newly constructed 36-bed intensive care facility. The proposal also allows for the possibility of adding 24 additional critical care beds at a later stage.
Mr. Thomas MP commented on “the brave and extraordinary staff who looked after my constituents during the pandemic.”
Northwick Park Hospital became the initial facility in the United Kingdom to manage a significant influx of Covid-19 patients in 2020.
Sir Keir Starmer honored the broader National Health Service following the Covid Inquiry and indicated he would facilitate a meeting between Mr. Thomas and the Health Secretary to address the proposal. The intensive care unit blueprint also incorporates a dedicated CT scanner.
During the period spanning March 2020 through October 2021, the combined facilities at Ealing and Northwick Park provided treatment to more than 5,000 patients.
