The second phase of demolition connected to the redevelopment of an estate in Harrow has been completed.
This scheme forms part of the renovation of Grange Farm in South Harrow, a residential development built in the 1960s containing 282 prefabricated homes that the local authority says had become progressively harder and more expensive to upkeep and warm.
The council began regeneration plans in 2015, working extensively with tenants to shape the project.
Phase 2A demolition has now wrapped up, clearing the way for 45 new affordable units.
These homes, situated within two newly built blocks, will include wheelchair-accessible accommodation on the ground floor.
This current stage follows the delivery of 89 new homes already constructed and advances the council’s goal to provide roughly 500 homes alongside a community centre and top-standard public spaces.
The Grange Farm scheme is part of the council’s wider regeneration approach throughout the borough.
Cllr Mina Parmar, Harrow Council’s cabinet member for housing, said that earlier this month they had reached an important point with the completion of Phase 2A demolition, which would make space for 45 new affordable homes, including up to 36 council homes for existing secure tenants of the estate.
The new properties would be located across two buildings and feature wheelchair-accessible ground floor homes that would also have private gardens and improved planting to create safer, greener shared spaces.
